As you are all well aware at this point, we here at Hangover School love beer. So, when we have the opportunity to try something new, we certainly jump at it! We’ve been sticking primarily with San Diego breweries lately, but after an escapade to San Francisco, we found Speakeasy Ales and Lagers. For those of you who don’t know, speakeasies were illicit liquor stores during the Prohibition era. Keeping with that theme, they serve up a delectable ale simply titled, “Prohibition.”
Their website explains that this was the first beer they brewed, and we’re glad they stuck with it! A dark amber beer with plenty of caramel malts, it goes down smooth and leaves you craving more. Looking at the label, we were surprised to find that it is rated at 45IBUs, though it certainly doesn’t taste as bitter as the number suggests. The malts provide a lovely balance to this hoppy ale. And at 6.1% ABV, you can’t go wrong! Just, try not to overdo it. But if you do, we’ve got plenty of hangover cures available for you to browse the next morning!
Speakeasy Ales and Lagers also brew up a couple of IPAs as well, so perhaps we’ll have to go back and review those fairly soon!
